The incumbent will inspect, locate, determine nature and scope of infestation and exterminate a wide variety of pests in order to eliminate control hazards to structures, public health, stored products and vegetation. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities - Inspect and determine the scope of infestation and exterminates a wide variety of insect and animal pests. - Follow written instructions on labels and apply formulas in order to mix chemicals to proper strength. - Determine proper amounts of chemicals to be mixed based on the size of the area to be treated. - Utilize equipment such as power and gas operated sprayers, dusters, ultra low volume and tractor sprayers. - Follow Federal and State requirements relating to pesticide and herbicide use and safety standards. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. - Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. - Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment - Dexterity and Safety - Knowledge of Materials - Use of Measuring Instruments - Physical Efforts: Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier. Work requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Moves equipment and furniture as required. - Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. When working outside is often exposed to hot sun for extended periods of time and occasionally to bad weather. Inside work is often performed in structural areas with minimum ventilation and/or limited access. Exposed to dust, dirt, toxic vapors, liquids, powders; infestation of pests that carry diseases; cuts bruises, insect bites and stings. Mixes and applies pesticides and herbicides while wearing respirators, gloves and other personal protective equipment designed to nullify the risk of exposure to toxic dust and sprays which might damage health. Damage to health may occur if appropriate safety procedures are not followed. May be exposed to poisonous insects and plants and to wild and rabid animals. Education Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
