Job Summary
This assistant professor position in Central Washington
University's History Department offers an exciting opportunity for
the successful candidate to contribute to vibrant and growing
undergraduate and graduate history programs. Working with the
History Department and other departments and programs, the
successful candidate will design and teach courses related to their
g eographic, religious, linguistic, and thematic specialization in
the pre-1500 Islamicate World. In addition to teaching lower- and
upper-division undergraduate and graduate classes in History, the
successful applicant will teach cross-listed courses in the
Africana and Black Studies program, and may have the opportunity to
contribute to cross-listed courses in other interdisciplinary
areas. Faculty will integrate CWU's commitment to diversity into
their classes and create a learning environment that is welcoming,
accessible and inclusive for all students.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in History with a specialization in pre-1500 Islamicate world
history (ABD candidates must have degree in hand by start
date).
Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduates in the classroom
and/or online.
Demonstrated ability to develop effective collaborative
relationships and strong commitment to a supportive, collegial work
environment.
Ability to teach cross-listed courses in Africana and Black
Studies.
Active and promising research/publication agenda in the history of
the Islamicate world prior to 1500.
Research, teaching, service or other experience that has prepared
the candidate to contribute to CWU's commitment to the engagement
and inclusion of culturally diverse students.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to teach cross-listed courses in Asian Studies, and/or
Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
Experience in teaching introductory world history, cross-cultural,
or borderlands classes.
Experience incorporating multicultural perspectives into teaching
for 21st century leadership.
Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of
backgrounds.
Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into
curriculum and classroom conversations.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary : Commensurate with education and experience
Appointment : Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Central
Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments
from mid-September through mid-June.
