Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Implements planned surveillance functions which include but are not limited to: Ongoing, systematic review of laboratory findings and infection alerts regularly Follow up on surveillance findings with specific case review Analyzes case reviews for noted trends Regular rounding on clinical units and support areas to identify infection prevention concerns Participates in the implementation/enforcement of infection prevention/control activities: Assists in the evaluation of Infection Prevention practices, e.g. isolation, hand hygiene, asepsis, sterilization processes, appropriate cleaning, etc. Participates in the development and implementation of plans for correction Participates in review, revision, and development of Infection Prevention and Control policies and standard work Participates in environment of care rounds to identify barriers to effective control and prevention Recommends incorporation of current regulations, standards, and evidenced-based practices. Applies performance improvement principles to work, e.g., Lean, 4SPS, PDSA, FMEA Reports data collected from surveillance activities and rounding in a clear and concise manner: Enters surveillance/occurrence data into a variety of databases within assigned time frames Assures that data is complete and accurate; validates data with other Infection Preventionists as required Participates in entering and extracting infection analysis data and conclusions in the NHSN database Participates in the generation of reports for dissemination of information to internal stakeholders, meeting all timelines Participates with Infection Prevention leader, manager, and others in the generation of conclusions and improvement plans based on aggregated and trended data. Assists in the management of infection outbreaks, collaborating with medical staff, Employee Health, and others as indicated. Assists in managing and implementing controls in the event of an epidemic Participates in Emergency Preparedness activities related to infectious disease outbreaks and risks associated with infectious disease Serves as an educator and consultant: Takes every opportunity to immediately educate the patient care team on infection prevention/control practices during rounds Participates in the development and implementation of planned education for staff, including orientation and regular updates 6. Serves as a liaison to community health officials: Collaborates with public health officials when required for infectious disease control Assures accurate reporting of potential and suspected infectious disease as required by regulation Assists in the development of educational programs related to infection prevention including providing input into new employee orientation and annual competency educational modules. 7. Performs infection control risk assessments (ICRAs) for construction and remodeling projects: Monitors compliance with mitigation of infection risks Reports non-compliance to manager and facilities personnel Performs other duties as assigned and requested by Infection Prevention Manager QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Required: Completion an accredited program for nurse practitioners program required. Bachelor of Science degree required, Master's preferred B. Experience: Required: Three years minimum acute care RN/NP Desired: Previous infection preventionist experience C. Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: Unencumbered Oregon License NP. Infection Contril Certification (CIC) required within two years of hire D. Other Maintains confidentiality. Working knowledge of microbiology and epidemiology preferred. Ability to interact and influence members of the healthcare team at all levels. Critical Thinking, Proficient in Microsoft Office products including WORD, EXCEL, and PPT. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and set priorities. Stethoscope, otoscope, opthalmoscope, computer terminal printer, photocopier, and patient charts. PAX system. F. Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Ability to provide care for the patient's age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial well-being.
