About the Office:
The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of
Washington has a competent, friendly, talented staff and an
outstanding relationship with its client-agencies. The main office
is located in Spokane, a branch office is located in Yakima and an
unstaffed trial and preparation office is in Richland. The District
employs approximately 59 personnel, including six Assistant United
States Attorneys (AUSAs) and six support staff assigned to the
Yakima branch office.
The branch office is located in the city of Yakima in central
Washington. The Eastern District of Washington is comprised of 20
counties and is bordered by Canada to the north, Oregon to the
south, Idaho to the east and the summit of the Cascade Mountains to
the west. This area is rich in rolling farmland, forested mountains
and arid desert. Because this area celebrates four distinct
seasons; recreational opportunities are numerous and include,
bicycling, hiking, snow skiing, water sports, fishing and hunting.

The office currently has an Assistant United States Attorney
position available in the Criminal Division, Yakima branch office.
The attorney selected will be part of a dedicated team assisting in
the enforcement and prosecution of federal criminal laws. The
primary assignments for the attorney selected will include the
investigation and prosecution of a wide-range of criminal matters
to include, for example, firearms, drug trafficking, gangs,
immigration, counterfeiting, child exploitation, explosives,
violent crimes, and white collar/economic crimes, as well as
drafting appellate briefs and arguing cases before appellate court
This is a full-time permanent position. However, all initial
attorney appointments to the Department of Justice are made on a
14-month (temporary) basis pending favorable adjudication of a
Required qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree from
an accredited law school, be duly licensed and authorized to
practice law as an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), and
have a minimum of 4 years of post-J.D. legal or other relevant
experience. United States citizenship is required.
Preferred qualifications: Applicants must possess excellent
research and writing skills, superior oral communication skills and
demonstrated capacity to function with minimal guidance, in a
highly demanding environment. Ideal applicants will possess
significant trial or other relevant experience involving one or
more of the variety of criminal matter identified above. Applicants
must exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional
manner with the attorney team leaders, attorneys, staff and client
AUSAs' pay is administratively determined on the number years of
professional attorney experience. The basic range of pay is $55,204
to $144,392 + locality pay. The current locality pay for Yakima is

will travel frequently to Richland and occasionally to Spokane.
There will be occasional travel outside the District.
