The Health Information Management Document Imaging Specialist
performs various clerical duties to store, maintain, and protect
the integrity and security of the electronic medical record. This
position ensures that all documents are in order and compliant
according to guidelines so that they can be scanned and indexed to
the patient's electronic medical record. This position requires the
highest level of customer service.
- Education: High School Diploma/GED.
- Experience: Courses in medical terminology, health records, and
knowledge of medical dictation preferred.
- Licenses/Certificates/Registration: None.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: Strong knowledge of
medical records practices, policies, and procedures including
HIPAA. Must have an understanding of clinical workflows and
knowledge of medical records and must be well trained in medical
terminology. Knowledge of hard copy chart flow and filing. Basic
knowledge of computers. Ability to handle stressful situations.
Skill in providing excellent customer service. Skill in
establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with
internal and clinic staff. Ability to exercise initiative,
judgment, and decision-making. Ability to prioritize required jobs
and maintain focus to get them done within set compliance
deadlines. Must be comfortable using a computer for long periods of
time to perform tasks such as scanning, indexing, and editing
medical records. Ability to understand the intra-organizational
