Job Description:
YVFWC has a compulsory vaccination policy including the Covid-19

department. Medical and religious exemptions to the primary series
will be considered and for those approved, the employee should
anticipate following appropriate guidance around masking and other
protective equipment offered.
Completes all tasks under the supervision of a licensed Optometry
Professional. Assists patients with ophthalmic eyeglass and contact
lens prescriptions. In addition, this position is responsible for
the Optical billing process and management of the frame
inventory.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities/Duties
- Sells contacts, frames, and contact lenses.
- Meets with patients to review current lens prescription and
take facial and eye measurements.
- Consults with patient and provides recommendations for specific
lenses, lens coatings, and frames based on prescription and patient
preference.
- Fills prescriptions for patients, ordering glasses and/or
contacts, based on eye care consultation.
- Prepares work order and instructions for lens grind and
eyeglass production. Verifies that finished lenses meet production
specifications.
- Adjusts and repairs eyeglass frames.
- Provides education and instruction to patients in the wear and
care of eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Calculates the purchase amount for selected products and
collects payment for services.
- Assists the Optometrist as needed with patient support to
include pre-testing, guiding patients to the exam room, and
capturing patient information and documentation during the
visit.
- Processes the Optical billing and follows up with patients and
insurance carriers as needed to resolve outstanding balances and
payments. Answers Optical insurance billing questions from
patients.
- Manages the eyeglass frame inventory, notifying the Optician
when inventories are low and orders need to be placed. Provides
recommendations for repeat orders and new eyeglass designers and
styles based on purchasing history. Works with vendors on product
additions, orders inventory, and maintains stock.
- Serves as a back-up to reception to include patient check-in
and check-out as well as scheduling appointments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint
Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration
(HRSA) and YVFWC requirements.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma
(GED).
- Experience: Two years experience in a customer service related
field. Experience in an optometry practice preferred.
- Professional Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Registration
as an Optician Apprentice is required within 6 months of
employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Bilingual (English/Spanish)
preferred. This position is not eligible for bilingual differential
pay. Ability to effectively present information and respond to
questions from clients and the general public. Effective verbal,
written and listening communication skills. Strong customer
relations skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability
to prioritize work, handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work independently. Basic proficiency with a variety of
computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
