Central Washington University is recruiting a Jump Start Coordinator (Program Coordinator) to join our Orientation and Transition Programs team in Ellensburg, Washington. Learn more: .The Role:The Jump Start Program Coordinator will have the responsibility to design, oversee and deliver extended welcome programming, including Jump Start, to students as well as to develop ongoing connections with students during the academic year. This position will recruit, hire and train support staff as needed. The coordinator provides program oversight, services to all cohort students, develops programming, establishes communications with university partners including admissions, faculty, advisors, and others. This individual will provide direct services to all cohort students. Job Duties


- Responsible for creating and delivering a transitional experience for first-year underserved students, including an extended orientation program and ongoing mentoring during the academic year.
- Build programming that integrates the prospective student experience during recruitment to the matriculated student experience once enrolled, including partnering with admissions, faculty, advising, financial aid and other offices.
- Identify program participants working with admissions staff, orientation staff, CWU's CAMP and TRIO programs, and enroll them in Jump Start or other programs.
- Develop and deliver a parent orientation program for Jumpstart & for First Year families and support networks.
- Hire, train, and oversee student mentors.
- Direct all program operations, including staffing, budgeting, and coordinating with other offices.
- Design and deliver program activities that connect students to the Ellensburg campus and the local community to create a sense of belonging.
- Identify, recruit and coordinate available community resources, including guest speakers, mentors, and volunteers.
- Help to publicize the program locally and statewide through local media sources.
- Support yearly assessment effort to improve the orientation and events experiences. Manage dissemination of appropriate assessment tools to students and their support networks.
- Work collaboratively on opportunities to onboard and orient transfer students to the CWU environments through passive and active programming models.
- Develop a mentoring program for the academic year to build on the extended welcome program.
- Working with mentors, build and implement activities and programs for the academic year.
- Check in with first year students on a regular basis.
- Develop and implement assessment materials for the entire program.
- Work with Orientation Manager to implement Week of Welcome events, programs, and sessions.
- Serve as a campus resource and referral contact for students and support network members.
- Support Orientation Director and Orientation Manager in the implementation of virtual orientations, Wildcat Preview Days, Admitted Student days and Week of Welcome.Supervisor Duties
- Actively engages in recruitment, hiring, and training of student mentors.
- Ensures mentors have necessary resources to operate effectively.
- Oversees and directs the work of mentors; serves as coach and leader and resolves complaints or issues.
- Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement.
- Takes corrective action in a timely manner.
- Recognizes and rewards employees for good performance.
- Schedules employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests.
- Recognizes value of and promotes diverse workforce. Values and encourages diverse perspectives, creativity and teamwork.- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in a related field.Experience working with building community for nontraditional and underrepresented groups.Demonstrated ability to create inclusive and welcoming programming and monitor data, including participation and demographic data.Demonstrated administrative skills including proficiency using MS Office. Experience supervising students.Demonstrated ability and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences.OR an equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related fieldDemonstrated success in collaborating with a variety of offices across the university.Bilingual (English/Spanish: reading, writing, and speaking).A record of promoting inclusivity in the work environment.Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds.Potential to mentor and educate students who will serve diverse populations.

    Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule


    Salary: This position is based on the range 40 of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $40,512 and maximum annual salary of $53,964 . In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records.
