Software Developer and Navigation Analyst Are you searching for important software development and system analysis work, where you can supply creative and impactful navigation solutions to the US Navy's surface and subsurface missions? We are the Navigation group in the Force Projection Sector at JHU/APL. We are seeking a Software Developer and Navigation Analyst to help us ensure the US Navy has the most accurate and reliable navigation systems in the world. In this role, you will use your skills in computer science and data analytics to develop software tools to evaluate high performance navigation sensors on US Navy platforms. You will work in collaborative teams to implement intuitive software to transform data into knowledge and, as a result, substantially increase the efficiency of APL's state of the art navigation analyses for deployed platforms. You will join a dedicated group of physicists, software developers, mathematicians, and scientists who are committed to directly contributing to the success of strategic and tactical missions of utmost importance to the US Navy. As a Software Developer and Navigation Analyst you will... Develop, maintain and use analysis tools that implement mathematical models to assess navigation system performance, including inertial navigation systems, GPS systems, and acoustic-based navigation systems Develop and maintain intuitive tools that visualize and analyze large quantities of navigation data to efficiently and reliably detect anomalies Provide software development leadership as a resource for best practices for the development, testing and maintenance of sophisticated software packages. You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Possess a BS in computer science, data science, mathematics, physics or a similar technical field Have professional experience developing software applications in MATLAB and/or Python Are familiar with software revision control systems (e.g., Git) Enjoy solving challenging technical problems requiring both self-motivated independent investigation and collaborative team effort Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and enjoy working on teams Possess a willingness to work with domain specialists of navigation systems to understand the physical systems in order to better develop analysis tools Are willing and able to travel to US Navy facilities, bases, and contractor sites Are able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by your start date and ulitmately a Top Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Have a MS or PhD in mathematics, computer science, data science, physics or a similar technical field Are knowledgeable about Agile software development Have experience with C++ or Java Programming languages Have worked on medium to large scale software development projects Have experience in machine learning Have analyzed complex navigation systems, including Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), GPS, navigational sonars Hold an active Secret or Top Secret security clearance Why work at APL?
