This position is eligible for paid shift differentials!
Employees working evening hours (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. shift)
will receive $1.55 per hour over their regular rate of pay, and
employees working night hours (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. shift) will
receive an additional two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) per hour
over their regular rate of pay. All staff members at Yakima Valley
Memorial must be in compliance with our Vaccination Policy, which
includes the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine, by their first day of
employment. Actual pay rate will be calculated based on relevant
years of experience and education/certification requirements. ROLE
SUMMARY The Medical Laboratory Technician performs standard
routine, complex, automated and manual laboratory techniques on all
age groups with minimal supervision. May perform specimen
collection using age specific techniques. ESSENTIAL
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Considers the priority and urgency of test results (STAT, ASAP,
Panic Values, etc.) and reports those results within the
established time frame and with documentation. Completes work in
established/reasonable timeframes.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Takes part in proficiency sample testing, when
appropriate.
- Performs, evaluates, and records quality control and institutes
corrective action as appropriate.
- Ensures proper functioning of laboratory equipment by
performing calibrations, preventative and corrective maintenance,
and troubleshooting basic instrument malfunctions.
- Assists with the teaching of CLS students and new
employees.
- Interacts with other healthcare workers to solve problems and
interpret patient lab results.
- Maintains competencies in areas worked.
- Supports and participates in Q Plus (or other performance
improvement) activities.
- Assists in evaluation of new methods and equipment.
- Utilizes supplies and equipment adequately but not excessively.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education: High School diploma or
GED equivalent required. Education that meets CLIA requirements for
testing personnel required to perform laboratory testing.
Experience: Recent hospital laboratory experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Registered Medical Lab
Technologist (ASCP) or equivalent preferred. Washington State (DOH)
Medical Assistant Phlebotomist License required if person collects
